Chandigarh, November 1

The state Cabinet on Friday decided to table an amendment to the ‘The Punjab State Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1952’ enabling exclusion of recently appointed Advisers to the Chief Minister from the office of profit category in the coming one-day Vidhan Sabha session on November 6.

Earlier, the Cabinet decided to take the ordinance route to amend the legislation but it could not materialise. Recently, the government had appointed six Advisers, four political and two for planning. The ordinance will amend the law to add these posts to the list of posts that are not considered office of profit for the purpose of disqualification of MLAs. With the amendment, these MLAs will not be disqualified, said a spokesperson after the Cabinet meeting.

Age limit raised

The Cabinet approved the presentation of the Punjab State Commission for SCs (Amendment) Ordinance-2019 in the ensuing session of the Vidhan Sabha for enactment. This will pave the way to enhance the age limit from 70 years to 72 years for appointment as a chairperson of the commission.

Fee regulation amendment

The Cabinet also gave approval to amend the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act, 2016, through presentation of a Bill in the Vidhan Sabha for its conversion into an Act to provide a mechanism for regulating the fee of unaided educational institutions in the state. The amendment will also protect the interests of unfortunate students whose earning family members die during their study in unaided educational institutions, as no fee will be charged from them till the completion of their studies.

CSR advisory board

The Cabinet approved the constitution of the Punjab Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advisory Board under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, as well as a CSR authority under the Chief Secretary. These will ensure systematic channelisation of CSR funds into the most-needed sectors and projects.
