The SGPC has fixed the date for meeting of the coordination panel, comprising its and the state government’s officials, for jointly organising events to commemorate the 550th Gurpurb of Guru Nanak on August 14.

The Capt Amarinder Singh government is yet to name its two representatives for the coordination panel.

On the directions of Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, the Shiromani Committee and the government accepted to jointly celebrate the Gurpurb. For this, a five-member panel, comprising, two representatives each of the SGPC and the government, besides a Sikh intellectual will be nominated.

Gobind Singh Longowal, SGPC president, stated that it was the second communique to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to suggest the names of their representatives.

He added that it was high time for the panel to chalk out programmes for the historic Gurpurb.

He stated that the SGPC had already sent a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard, which remained unanswered. So a reminder was despatched now.
