Various government employees’ unions along with pensioners on Friday under the banner of the Sanjha Mulazam Manch protested in front of Sangrur Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in support of their pending demands.
The employees under the banner of the Punjab State Ministerial Services Union, Revenue Patwar Union, PWD Field Workshop Association and CPF Union, while pensioners under the banner of the Punjab State Pensioners’ Confederation, Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association and All-Pensioners’ Welfare Association took part in the protest.
“All working and retired employees are fed up of the policies of the Punjab Government. None of our demands has been fulfilled. We are only getting assurances since the formation of the Congress government in Punjab,” said Raj Kumar Arora, a leader of pensioners’ union.
The main demands include withdrawal of professional tax, implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations, cancellation of wrong transfers in the Education Department, restarting pension scheme and regularisation of temporary employees.
“We have waited for a long time. If we don’t get a positive response from the government in the coming days, we will intensify our agitation,” the protesters said.
