Muktsar, August 3
The Co-operative Department has suspended Rajinder Singh, secretary, Chhateana Co-operative Society, for allegedly siphoning off Rs 30 lakh during his tenure as secretary of the Gidderbaha Co-operative Society.
His three-acre land and a residence have been attached for the recovery of this amount. Society president Balraj Singh and some other members alleged that Rajinder was transferred from Gidderbaha to Chhateana village in August last year, but he did not hand over the charge and official records to his successor.
“Thus a complaint in this regard was lodged with the senior officials, who gave him time to give the records. Rajinder, however, did not bother. During record inspection, we found that he has committed fraud of Rs 57 lakh. Some farmers claimed that they had cleared the debt, but their accounts were still showing debt,” claimed Balraj.
Rajan, Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Gidderbaha, said, “As of now, the fraud of Rs 30 lakh has been detected and a number of farmers have lodged complaints against Rajinder. The exact amount of fraud will be ascertained only after the completion of probe. We have suspended him and attached his land and house for the recovery of money. Legal action too will be taken against him. He committed major fraud by selling urea and DAP in a period of just six months in 2018.”
