Best Lawyers in Chandigarh 6 booked for branding youths as child lifters

Fazilka, August 1

The report of presence of a gang of child lifters in the area proved false with the arrest of nearly six persons, who had allegedly beaten up some youths and forced them to confess that they were members of such a gang.

A clip had also gone viral two days ago in which some youths were seen confessing to kidnapping children from the area and selling them in Delhi. But when the police investigated the matter, the assailants got exposed. Vicky (19), a labourer of Jhok Depolana village, told the police that he and his fiancée Rajni were going on a bike to Dabwali Malko village on July 29 when their neighbour Gurmeet Singh intercepted them and asked them where he was going with a woman at night and started abusing them.

Gurmeet’s companions Charanjit Singh alias Channa, Pragat Singh, Gurjit Singh and Surjit Singh were also present there. When Vicky objected to their behaviour, they allegedly thrashed them.

The accused later tied Vicky and his companions, who tried to rescue him, and forced them to confess that they were members of a child lifters’ gang. They then made the video clip and uploaded it on social media.

Jagdish Kumar, DSP, said it was found that no one was involved in kidnapping any child. He said the main accused, Charanjit Singh, had been arrested. — OC
