Kiratpur Sahib, July 28

Two youths riding a scooter reportedly fell into the Bhakra canal here today. The passersby rescued one of them, Charanjit Saini (18) of nearby Gardale village, while Vishal Saini (16) has been feared washed away.

According to the police, the victims along with other residents of Gardale village were to set up langar on the banks of the canal for pilgrims going towards Naina Devi temple. When they were going towards their village on the scooter, it fell into the water. Sunny Khanna, SHO, said efforts were being made to trace the other victim. — TNS
