Punjab residents seeking income and asset certificate under the economically weaker section (EWS) to avail themselves of the benefit of reservation in Central government jobs and Central educational institutions can now show voter card as a proof of residence.

The Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Punjab, in instructions issued to the Deputy Commissioners has stated that it has been decided that an applicant would have to apply with a self-declaration on a standard format application. To remove any confusion over the content of the certificate, a specimen has been issued while authorising the Tehsildars to issue the document.
