Phagwara, July 29

A Bihari migrant, working as a labourer, identified as Bandhu alias Raju allegedly murdered his wife Lakshmi (33) with an iron rod at nearby Dameli village last night. The couple has five daughters.

Phagwara SP Mandeep Singh said the family used to reside in the house of farmer Maninder Singh. He added that the incident took place following a quarrel between the couple during a liquor party that was organised to celebrate the birth of their daughter.

Rawalpindi SHO Usha Rani said fight over excessive drinking by the accused was said to be the cause behind the murder. The accused managed to escape. The police have registered a case. The woman’s body has been sent to Civil Hospital for postmorterm. — OC
