In a three-year-old case, the court of Additional Civil Judge (senior division), Balachaur, Balvinder Kaur, on Friday sentenced two accused to three-year jail term for helping gangster Dilpreet Baba escape from police custody.

The accused, Gurpreet Singh Gopi of Birowal village in Nawanshahr and Amrik Singh of Ludhiana, have been sentenced to three years of imprisonment under Section 325 of the IPC, three years under Section 392 of the IPC, two years under Section 224 of the IPC and one year under Arms Act. The sentences will run concurrently.

Dilpreet was being taken back to Hoshiarpur jail after a court hearing in Ropar. En route, the police team stopped at a dhaba on the Balachaur-Hoshiarpur road when six armed youths managed to help Dilpreet escape custody. —TNS
