Youth killed in road mishap

Ropar: A 24-year-old youth was killed when a motorcycle hit him near Nirankari Bhawan here on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Narender Kumar, a resident of nearby Kotla Tapparian village.According to information, Narender was working as a driver of a pick-up van and was going to join duty on a bicycle around 9 am when a motorcycle hit him from behind. He was taken to the local Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. TNS

Two held with heroin

Fazilka: The police arrested two interstate drug peddlers from Fazilka town and recovered 200 gram of heroin and Rs 50,000 drug money from their possession. SP (Investigation) Ranbir Singh said a CIA staff team nabbed Hina Rani, a resident of Sirsa and Sunny of Abohar along with contraband, drug money and a motorcycle. The SP said the accused had confessed that the consignment was to be given to drug addicts in Fazilka town. OC

Pickpocket gang busted

Fatehgarh Sahib: The police claim to have unearthed a gang involved in picking the pockets of VIPs at political rallies all over the state with the arrest of two members of the gang. The kingpin and a member are still at large. Harpal Singh, SP (Investigations), said during the thanksgiving rally of Dr Amar Singh, MP, organised by Kaka Randip Singh, MLA from Amloh, the pockets of 18 VIPS, including MLA Randip Singh, and secretary, PPCC, Harinder Singh Bhambhri, were picked on the stage. He said a team nabbed Rajinder Singh and  Karan Kumar, both from Ludhiana.
