Nihangs booked for bid to grab land

MUKTSAR: The Gidderbaha police have booked 20 Nihangs for allegedly trying to grab a land at Gurusar village. Those booked include Baba Satnam Singh, who takes care of a village gurdwara, his sons Gokal Singh and Gurpinder Singh. The accused are, however, yet to be arrested. The Nihangs, belonging to a faction of Baba Budha Dal, had on Friday started a morcha at the land, demanding the ownership rights be transferred to the gurdwara. However, the land belonged to Baba Balbir Singh 96 Crori of another faction of Baba Budha Dal. TNS

Godman gets 10-yr jail for raping minor

Sangrur: The court of Additional Sessions Judge Jasjit Singh Bhinder on Sunday sentenced a tantrik (godman) to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, of which Rs 50, 000 would be given to the victim as compensation. The girl had got pregnant and gave a birth to child, who died within a few days. The victim alleged that she had developed breathing issues in November 2017. As a result, her parents took her to several doctors, but when they failed to cure her problem, the victim’s mother took her to a tantrik Mandeep Singh in Roorgarh village, who raped her. ASI dies in mishap

Muktsar: An ASI died in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and tractor-trailer near Bhullar village here on Sunday. The deceased identified as ASI Mukhtiar Singh of Budhimal village was on the way to Muktsar town when the mishap occurred. He died on the spot. The tractor driver, however, managed to flee the spot. Cousin rapes minor

Sangrur: The police have registered a rape case against a local for allegedly raping his 16-year-old cousin. Victim said her cousin took her to his house during the intervening night of May 30 and 31 on the pretext that his wife was unwell. However, when she was sleeping on the rooftop of his house, he allegedly raped her. TNS

Youth booked for rape

Moga: A Class X student was allegedly raped by a youth of her village. Investigating Officer ASI Kirandeep Kaur said a case under various Sections of the IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act had been registered against Luvpreet Singh at Mehna police station. She said the medical examination of the girl was conducted which confirmed she was sexually abused. TNS
