SAD pats its back on poll show, flays power rate hike

Chandigarh, May 28
Patting its back for “improvement” in results in the Lok Sabha polls as compared to the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections, the core committee of the SAD today claimed the party led in 35 Assembly segments against 17 two years back.
The party claimed to have bagged at least 51 lakh votes out of the total 2.07 crore polled. At the same time, its political rival Congress lost four lakh voters. The SAD improved its vote share while the share of the Congress and AAP fell significantly, the core committee claimed.
A resolution passed by the committee acknowledged that the Almighty decimated those who committed or planned the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. “The PPCC chief was leading the Congress-sponsored elements, who had formed the so-called morchas on the sacrilege issue. He was defeated as were his co-conspirators, including Sukhpal Khaira, Baljeet Singh Daduwal, Dhian Singh Mand, Simranjit Singh Mann and the so-called Taksalis,” the SAD chief said.
In another resolution, the party came down heavily on the hike in the electricity tariff. They said the hike was unjustified when the facility of 200 free units to the poor was withheld. Farmers, industry, traders and the domestic sector were reeling under the burden imposed on them by the Congress government.
The committee also took note of the BSP affecting the SAD vote share, particularly in Doaba.
The committee expressed “grave concern” over the growing incidents of rape and murder in the state. It also expressed shock over an incident in which a teacher committed suicide following the government’s refusal to consider the demand of contractual teachers. In another resolution, the core committee asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up with Pakistan the issue of demolition of a heritage and religious site connected with the life of Guru Nanak Dev.
