The family of a 34-year-old pregnant woman who died in the gynaecology wing of Rajindra Hospital here on Monday morning, has alleged negligence.
Parminder Kaur was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night after being referred from Barnala.
According to the family, the foetus was already declared dead before she was admitted to Rajindra Hospital. However, the woman’s health deteriorated at night and she died around 6 am.
Following this, the family held a protest outside the gynaecology department. Accusing the doctors of being insensitive, the family said the patient was not treated despite her serious condition.
Her husband, Jaswinder Singh, claimed, “There was no doctor at night. Despite repeated requests to the staff nurses she was not properly attended to.”
Jaswinder said Patiala despite being the home district of Health Minister Brahm Mohindra and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the health system there is in bad shape. He said the lack of medicine, no patient care and the insensitive attitude of the doctors spoke volumes about the health facilities in the state.
Her father said, “We don’t want anybody else to face this. The government should take action against the negligent staff.”
Meanwhile, the doctors in the hospital refused to comment. Medical Superintendent Rajan Singla has called for a meeting to inquire into the death.
