After winning the elections, some newly elected MPs seem to have become so busy that they are not even having the time to thank voters. In such a situation, either their party MLAs or halqa in charges are now holding thanksgiving tours in their respective areas.
For instance, in this blistering heat, 91-year-old former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is holding a thanksgiving tour in his Lambi Assembly segment, which falls in the Bathinda parliamentary constituency, on behalf of his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who made a hat-trick this time.
Similarly, former MLA Harpreet Singh is holding a thanksgiving tour in the Malout Assembly segment on behalf of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, who recently won from the Ferozepur parliamentary constituency with the biggest margin in the state.
Further, SAD’s Muktsar district chief-cum-MLA Kanwarjit Singh ‘Rozy Barkandi’ is also on a thanksgiving tour on behalf of Sukhbir in Muktsar Assembly segment.
Not just SAD leaders, even the Congress MLA from Gidderbaha, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and his wife Amrita Warring, are on a thanksgiving tour in the Gidderbaha Assembly segment. Here Congress leader Mohammad Sadiq defeated SAD’s Gulzar Singh Ranike.
On these thanksgiving programmes by party leaders, some locals said, “It seems we have voted for the MLAs. Just a few days ago, the MPs were begging for votes with folded hands but now, they don’t have time for those who elected them.”
They said, “It would have been better if the newly elected MPs had held one public meeting in each Assembly segment.”
