A major event of the district, the annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, will be commemorated from December 26 to 28 in the memory of younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh.

The event will be completely religious in nature and wine shops within 3-km radius of gurdwaras, gambling stalls, circuses, swings and other sources of entertainment had been banned, said Amrit Kaur Gill, Deputy Commissioner, while addressing mediapersons after presiding over a meeting of district officials here today.

She directed all departments to coordinate and share information so that the fair could be conducted in a smooth manner. The DC directed PWD officials to complete the repair of all roads leading to Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib for the convenience of lakhs of devotees. She said carrying sharp-edged weapons and playing of loud speakers had also been banned.

She directed officials to remove encroachments from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib.
