Chandigarh, November 27
Six judicial officers appointed as Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court will be administered oath by Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha on Wednesday. The High Court, with their elevation, will have a record number of 10 woman judges.
The Additional Judges to be administered oath are Ashok Kumar Verma, Sant Parkash Phutela, Meenakshi Mehta, Karamjit Singh, Vivek Puri, and Archana Puri.
The list is unique for another reason as well. Married couple Vivek Puri and Archana Puri will take oath together as High Court judges.
The appointments assume significance as the government had informed a parliamentary committee earlier this year that only 73 out of the 670 judges serving in various High Courts were women.
The number of judges in the High Court with their appointment will go up to 56 against the sanctioned strength of 85.
