Sangrur: The body of Army sepoy Manpreet Singh was consigned to flames with full state honours at Longowal village here on Wednesday. He was posted in Jammu and Kashmir in 18 Sikh Regiment. “Manpreet Singh attained martyrdom in J&K on November 26. The country is proud of his sacrifice,” said Rajwant Singh, district Sainik welfare officer. He was born on January 8, 1998, and joined the Army in March 2018. TNS

Printing press to be modernised

Chandigarh: The printing press of the state government would be modernised, said Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Minister of Printing and Stationary Department, at a meeting with top officials on Wednesday. Dharamsot instructed the officials to prepare an action plan for updating the government press and to revise the rules related to procurement and printing. He said the process devised in 1975 for revising the printing and stationery rules should be implemented. TNS

Sangrur: Farmers protested in front of the Sangrur DC office over long pending demands here on Wednesday. “Our demands include cancellation of FIRs against farmers for stubble burning, purchase of cotton by Cotton Corporation of India and implementation of recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission,” said Bhupinder Longowal, farm leader. Two killed in mishap

Sangrur: Two youngsters lost their lives after their motorcycle hit a stationary truck on the Sunam-Cheema road. Sunam SHO Major Singh said the bike of Gora Singh (23) and Kulwinder Singh (22) hit the truck from the rear side. Both of them died on the spot. THe SHO said an investigation was being carried out. Siblings injured in accident

Patiala: A boy and his sister, who were riding a two-wheeler, were grievously injured after their vehicle was hit by a Scorpio near the Sirhindi gate on Wednesday. The car driver, who fled the spot, was later apprehended by the police on the Passi road. The two youngsters were admitted to Government Rajindra hospital. The injured are residents of Guru Nanak Nagar. TNS

Man arrested with 155 tablets
