After the recommendations of National SC/ST Commission Chairman Raj Kumar Chhaina to suspend SHO, Sadar Phagwara, Manmohan Singh on the charges of negligence of duty in a quarrel between a Dalit victim, Kuldip, and alleged accused Gurmit and Harwinder, Kapurthala SSP Satinder Singh has ordered a departmental inquiry against the SHO and sent him to the Police Lines till the completion of the probe.

The victim in his complaint to the police alleged that he came to Phagwara along with the accused for combine operations on October 14 and worked with combine owner Gurmit after an agreement to pay him Rs 1,200 daily. The issue started when he demanded Rs 9,600 for eight days, but the accused started beating him and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons in which he sustained serious injuries.

The SSP said action had been taken after getting report from the SDM and DSP who visited the victim yesterday. The National SC/ST Commission Chairman has asked the administration to give adequate compensation to the victim and bear all his medical expenses. —OC
