Several devotees today staged a sit-in protest outside the SGPC office demanding implementation of Akal Takht edict against the replica of Golden Temple being erected at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur.

On July 20, 2009, Akal Takht had directed the SGPC to fill the sarovar of the replica with sand, remove the bridge leading to the shrine and other structural changes so that it does not resemble the Golden Temple.

The protesters with banners in their hands sat outside the main entrance of the SGPC office in a peaceful manner. Parshotam Singh Faguwal said Gurdwara Singh Sabha at Mastuana Sahib still looked like the Golden Temple and Akal Takht’s directions against the management of the gurdwara and making changes in its structural design were never followed.

“It is violation of the Akal Takht edict. We are holding a silent protest so that the SGPC takes note of it and initiate action in this regard,” he said.

Others who participated in the protest included Pritpal Singh Dhaliwal, Kuldeep Singh, Jarnail Singh, Jasmel Singh, Jarnail Singh Khudikalan and Amanpreet Singh.
