The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Arun Aggarwal has acquitted MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains and 28 others facing accusation of attempt to murder, dacoity and illegal sand mining.

He was booked on the complaint of ASI Gurmit Singh and Mahesh Khanna GM, Industries Department, under Section 307, 395, and 397 of the IPC.

The MLA, who was nominated under Section 120-B IPC, was arrested on April 17 on the eve of launching an agitation against the sand mafia in Chuharwal village, Ludhiana. His brother and MLA Balwinder Bains was arrested outside a local hotel where he was to address a press conference. — OC
