Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar has criticised the Modi-led BJP government for “deliberate” delay in releasing GST share of Rs 4,100 crore to Punjab. He said the Union Government should stop giving stepmotherly treatment to Punjab and immediately release GST share to the state.

Jakhar said the Modi government was acting contrary to the basic spirit and ethics of the country’s federal structure. The BJP government had earlier implemented a flawed GST in a haste, he said.

He said due to the Centre’s decision of demonetisation, GST and wrong economic policies, there was a recession in every sector across the country. “The GST collections in the states have declined sharply. Punjab’s GST collection nosedived by 44%, Himachal’s 40% and Haryana’s 24%,” Jakhar said. — TNS
