Dubai-based hotelier and social activist Dr SPS Oberoi has announced to establish an academic chair to promote research into the life and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev at Punjab University, Lahore, apart from arranging the state-of-the-art automated machinery for preparation of langar at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

Returning from his Pakistan tour here today, Dr Oberoi, who runs Sarbat Da Bhalla Charitable Trust, said that Guru Nanak Chair, dedicated to 550th Parkash Purb, would be set up at Punjab University Research Centre. Not only Guru’s ‘baani’ and his teachings would be studied, but special seminars and discussions would also be conducted to propagate them globally.

“We propose to deposit a handsome amount in the bank which could generate an annual interest of at least Rs 35 lakh-Rs 40 lakh to fund the research work, arranging literature and reference material and conducting programmes.
