Man held with 3-kg opium

Gear up for polls, MoD tells cantonment boards 

Ferozepur: As the term of the sitting members of the Cantonment Board, Ferozepur, comes to an end in February next year, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through its circular issued on November 21 has asked all cantonment boards across the nation to start the process for the elections.  The dates for holding these elections are likely to be announced soon. As per information, a total of 56 cantonment boards, of the 62 across the nation will complete their terms on February 10, 2020. OC

Moga trucker found hanging in Gujarat lock-up 

Moga: A 24-year-old truck driver hailing from Moga was found hanging in the lock-up at Adesar police post in Gujarat on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Charanjeet Singh, a resident of Moga. He was arrested on Wednesday after he was involved in a scuffle between the police and drivers at Adesar police check-post. He was sent to a police lock-up at Adesar police post. In the night, he made a rope from the bedsheet and hanged himself in the bathroom with the help of bedsheet. TNS

Muktsar farmer attempts suicide at police station

Muktsar: A farmer on Friday tried to end his life by consuming some poisonous substance at Muktsar police station. Swaran Singh of Kotli Devan village had brought a bottle of pesticide with him and consumed it in the police station, said some farmers who were already holding a protest there. Swaran's father Jaskaran said a commission agent was demanding Rs 7 lakh from them and his son was depressed due to it. Sources said the farmer carried a suicide note. He has been referred to a hospital in Faridkot. TNS

Four carjackers held

Sangrur: The police arrested four persons involved in carjacking. "We arrested Gurwinder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Vikramjit Singh and Harmanjeet Singh and confiscated a swift car, robbed from a Sunam resident on October 10. Further investigations are on," the police said. TNS
