Best Lawyers in Chandigarh High Court raps state in fake encounter case

Chandigarh, October 31

Just about four months after Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay claimed non-availability of basic facilities for looking into a fake encounter case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today rapped the state for not doing the needful. The rap came after Chattopadhyay told Justice Rajiv Narain Raina’s Bench that a room, inadequate for the purpose of investigation, was allotted in the Punjab mini secretariat. In a status report placed before the Bench, he added that a request was sent for deputing seven more police personnel, but an order for posting/attaching two DSPs was issued.

The Bench was of the view that the state could not act like this with a DGP-rank officer and was required to be given facilities commensurate with his status. The Bench also fixed November 7 for submission of report. Before parting with the order, the Bench directed him to be provided with adequate personal security and complete case record, including progress by earlier SITs. — TNS
