Wary of Khalistani elements in Pakistan, security and intelligence agencies in the state and Centre are maintaining a record of those persons applying to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

The verification of applicants’ conduct and credentials is being done by the police and internal security agencies.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a security official said whenever someone applies to visit Pakistan, they have to verify his/her record and conduct. “We get the information about the person’s last visit to Pakistan, passport number, Aadhaar card number and permanent residence address. Thereafter, we procure the information about the person from the locals and our sources. Then we report it to our higher-ups,” said the official.

Meanwhile, a devotee, who applied to visit Pakistan via the Kartarpur corridor, said, “The police and intelligence personnel have verified my credentials and conduct. Now, they will send their report to their departmental heads and then I will get a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib. I had to ask two of my neighbours to verify my residence address and also submitted copies of their Aadhaar cards.”
