The district administration has penalised 44 farmers for resorting to stubble-burning. The authorities have imposed a fine of Rs 1.32 lakh on these farmers. In a statement, Bathinda DC B Srinivisan said the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and the Agriculture Department were regularly holding awareness camps in villages to sensitise farmers about the ill-effects of stubble-burning.
The PPCB has constituted 41 teams and deputed 25 coordinators in the district to ensure that the farmers don’t set their farms afire. A nodal officer has been deployed in each village, who will intimate coordinators in case of a farm fire in any of the villages. Besides, the Revenue Department is also making entries in its records regarding the farmers indulging in stubble-burning so that the violators don’t get the benefit of any government scheme.
20 Moga farmers challaned
- The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and Agriculture Department on Thursday fined 20 farmers in the Moga district for burning paddy residue
- Farmers having land holding of more than 5 acres were imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 while the ones having between two and five acres or more were challaned for Rs 5,000 each.Those having two or less than two acres were asked to pay Rs 2,500 each
- District Magistrate Sandeep Hans said FIRs have been registered under Section 188 of the IPC against farmers
