High drama was witnessed at District Administrative Complex here today when teachers under the banner of the Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee entered the complex and gheraoed the offices of district education officers (DEOs), though Section 144 was in force and no one is allowed to protest inside the complex.

Led by state president Devinder Punia, they raised slogans against the DEOs and education secretary and disrupted the work of other offices. When the higher officials came to know, the police was called and they were pushed out of the complex. Later, the teachers sat in front of the DC office in protest.

Punia said, “Our struggle and dharnas will continue till both District Education Officers are not transferred.”

He alleged that both DEOs misbehave with teachers during checking of schools. They alleged that the DEO (elementary) took the record of one of their leaders in custody to demoralise and harass him. He called upon teachers to close the gate and make the DEOs hostage if they ask any query and misbehave with them.

He warned the government, police and DEOs that they were ready to sacrifice their lives.

District Education Officer (Elementary) Dinesh Kumar said he had every right to check the record of teachers and he had taken the record of ETT teacher Sukhwinder Singh and a committee had been formed to verify. He refuted the allegation of misbehaviour with any teacher.

Deputy Commissioner Parshant Goyal said Section 144 was in force and he was not aware if anyone could enter the administrative complex or not. He said teachers had informed him about the protest.
