Demanding regularisation of their services, contractual teachers climbed atop a water tank in Sangrur city. They ended their protest only after being assured by Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla.

“We would intensify our agitation if the Punjab Government fails to regularise our services,” said Satwant Singh, leader of the contractual teachers union.

Sangrur DSR (Rural) Satpal Sharma said teachers ended their protest after a meeting with Singla.

“Education Minister Singla assured teachers that they would be called for a meeting this month and teachers ended their protest,” the DSP added.

1 booked for harassing minor

The Malerkotla police have registered a case against a local for alleged sexual harassment of a minor girl.

“The minor girl has alleged that accused Arshad had been sexually harassing her from the past around three years. We have registered a case against Arshad and conducting raids to arrest him,” said ASI Beena Rani. — TNS
