Best Lawyers in Chandigarh Rs 2.78-cr power bill: Education Dept to opt for OTS scheme
Patiala, September 27
With Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) declaring that there has been a pendency of Rs 2.78 crore on the part of government schools and other education offices, the Education Department has directed the district education officers (DEOs) to enroll the defaulters under the recently launched one-time settlement scheme of the PSPCL.
The step has been taken to facilitate the defaulters to pay bills and avoid the heavy burden of interest.
The scheme is, in fact, for all connections given to the government departments which defaulted on bill payment, but their connections couldn’t be discontinued in public interest. The announcement is said to have come after the PSPCL asked the state Education Department to clear the pending electricity bill at the earliest.
To expedite the payment process, the department has asked the DEOs to immediately pay Rs 2,000 as the processing fee/defaulter at the subdivisional offices to pay the pending bills under the said scheme.
Meanwhile, Director General School Education (DGSE) Mohammad Tayyab said, “We are trying to settle the pending PSPCL bills. The move is one of the steps to clear the pending bills of the department.” —TNS
