Best Lawyers in Chandigarh Move HC for PIL on missing persons: SC

Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to persons who went missing in Punjab during the period of insurgency, filed by Punjab Documentation and Advocacy Project (PDAP), the Supreme Court has asked the petitioner to first approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The apex court was hearing a PIL filed by the PDAP related to mass cremation of 8,257 missing persons in Punjab, who were reportedly killed in fake encounters or were abducted by security forces during the militancy and counter insurgency period after 1984.

The petitioners, Barrister Satnam Singh Bains and Jagjit Singh Bajwa, in a press release issued here today, said they would file the PIL in the High Court in the next few days. They stated that they had full faith in the judiciary.

“We have withdrawn the PIL and will now file it afresh in the High Court,” said Bajwa while talking to The Tribune over the phone.
