The body of Surinder Singh (38), who was swept away by strong water current after his car fell into Gang Canal on Thursday, has been finally recovered near Bareka village.

His cousin Surjeet Singh said the body got stuck along the bank of the canal nearly 5 km away from the mishap site. Villagers noticed the body floating along the bank following which it was taken to the Civil Hospital. The autopsy will be conducted on Saturday. Notably, six members of Surinder Singh’s family, including his mother, wife, two daughters, a son and a nephew, were drowned as their car fell into Gang Canal near Jandwala Mirasangla village. Surinder, who was driving the car, got swept away and his elder brother Balwinder Singh managed to escape. —OC
