Three persons have allegedly died of drug overdose in a week inFerozepur district.

A youth, Jeeta of Basti Keemewali, became the latest victim of drug overdose on Saturday. The deceased was found dead at his house. Jeeta became an addict after the death of his parents a few years ago. Married a year ago, he was blessed with a baby girl recently. His body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem.

Two days ago, a 35-year-old man, Ranjit Singh, alias Babbu, of Bagge ke Pippal village died of drug overdose.

On August 27, Harmanjot Singh (25) of Kassuana village, died. He was the only child having a lot of landholding. A person was arrested and five others booked in this case.

Meanwhile, sources said in most cases, the kin of the deceased refuse post-mortem.

A senior official said most of the deceased belong to economically weaker section and they follow their own assumptions. “They don’t agree for the post-mortem for one or the other reasons or probably due to the social taboo attached to it,” he said. —OC
