Surinder Bhardwaj
Fatehgarh Sahib, September 30
The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), which was facing a financial crisis during the Akali Dal -BJP regime, was now earning profits, which would rise manifolds with the consistent efforts of the Capt Amrinder Singh-led state government. Transport Minister Razia Sultana stated this after dedicating the newly constructed bus stand at GT Road, Sirhind. The bus stand, built in 1.50 acres at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore, has been named after legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadar.
On the eve of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak, the government would start new buses to facilitate passengers. A special bus service would be started on November 1 from Fatehgarh Sahib to Dera Baba Nanak, she stated, while announcing Rs 10 lakh for the development of Fatehgarh Sahib.
Kuljit Singh Nagra, adviser to the Chief Minister and Fatehgarh Sahib MLA, appreciated the efforts of the PRTC officials who had worked hard for the completion of this project before the deadline. After many decades, Fatehgarh Sahib had got a bus stand. Though the Akali Dal-BJP government ruled the state for 10 years, they never bothered to take any initiative for the development of the district, he alleged.
The incumbent government was spending more than Rs 400 crore on the upgrade of Fatehgarh Sahib and would spend more than Rs 180 crore for the repair and widening of roads, he added.
MP Dr Amar Singh announced Rs 60 lakh for the uplift of the district and said he had raised the issue of development of this historical place in the Parliament and got assurance from the Central Government.
KK Sharma, Chairman of the PRTC, said the bus stand was equipped with all facilities, including an information centre, restaurant, ATM, offices, LCDs, high-tech announcement system, fire-fighting system and a special park.
Subhash Sood, Director PRTC, Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu, Managing Director, DC Prashant Kumar Goyal and SSP Amneet Kondal were also present.
