Fatehgarh Sahib, Sept 1

A district police head constable uploaded a video on the social media in which he has accused Mulepur village sarpanch of pressuring him to cancel an FIR filed against his cousin in a drug case.

The head constable, Rashpal Singh, is posted at Mulepur police station.

In the viral video, Rashpal alleged that on secret information, he caught one Harvinder Singh of Mulepur village with 4,000 intoxicant tablets and a case under the NDPS Act was registered. He said Harvinder was a cousin of the village sarpanch due to which the latter was pressurising the police to cancel the FIR. “However, when I refused to budge, I was harassed.” He also alleged that the district-level officers were stopping him from informing the higher-ups. Rashpal is seen requesting everyone to share the video so that the matter could reach to the DGP and Chief Minister.

As soon as SSP Amneet Kondal came to know about the post, she issued a press release, saying that the allegations of the head constable about political pressure to cancel the FIR were completely false, baseless and motivated. She said the case was registered on August 19 and the accused was still lodged in the jail and there was no question of cancellation of the FIR whatsoever. The SSP said Rashpal Singh was already facing corruption charges since 2017. She said he was placed under suspension on Thursday because he failed to turn up for a crime meeting.

Meanwhile, sarpanch Harinder Singh termed the allegations of Rashpal Singh as baseless. He said Rashpal called his cousin to inquire about an ATM theft. However, the moment Harvinder reached the police station, he was booked under the NDPS Act and 4,000 tablets recovery was shown, the sarpanch said.

The SSP said an inquiry had been marked to the SP (Headquarters) so that the facts may come to the fore.
