After allegations were raised against a retired professor of Punjabi University over having sent obscene messages to girl students of the varsity, his family has stated that his phone was lost and misused by someone. They said they had registered a complaint regarding the loss of his phone in Delhi.
Punjabi University has received a complaint from family members of some girl students that a retired professor was sending obscene messages to their children.
While the professor concerned could not be contacted, his family members said his phone was lost in Delhi after which they had lodged a complaint with the police. They said they also received obscene messages from his son’s number. Dr GS Batra, Dean Academics, said the university had a mechanism of dealing with such matters. “We will look into the case. We may have to call both claimants over the matter,” he said.
Registrar Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar said the retired professor’s family, including his wife, had contacted him and submitted a copy of DDR to the police which stated that the phone was lost.
