In a controversy over the eligibility of 144 MBBS aspirants in Punjab who have allegedly claimed benefit of residence in other states also, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) on Saturday sent a list of these candidates to all medical colleges in the state, asking the institutions to be cautious before admitting them.

The BFUHS released the result of first MBBS counselling on August 29. All selected candidates were to join the allotted medical colleges after verification of their documents on August 30-31.

There are allegations that there are 144 aspirants who are taking benefit of residence in Punjab and also of neighbouring states, like Haryana, Rajasthan and UP.

Asking the medical colleges to take original affidavits from the parents of all selected candidates to the effect that they or their children had not taken the benefit of residence in any other state, the BFUHS said the document should be attested by the executive magistrate/oath commissioner or a notary public.

“As the selections had already been made in the rest of the country, so we have to ensure that only eligible candidate get the admission so that there is no further delay,” said Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS.

In the run-up to the admission on over 2,200 MBBS and BDS seats in the state, many parents had filed a complaint with the university some days ago. They had submitted a list of many candidates who have allegedly applied for state quota seats in Punjab and in other states also. The complaint alleged that rules were being violated as no candidate could take benefit of residence of two states at one time.
