Ludhiana: Two inmates of borstal jail were killed and two injured when lightning struck them on the jail premises on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Rishab and Lakhvir. Deputy Superintendent Rahul Raja said the incident occurred at 4.30 pm when several jail inmates were standing outside a temple inside the jail premises. TNS

Mystery over youth’s death

Ferozepur: A youth belonging to Bagge ke Pippal village died of alleged drug overdose. The deceased youth has been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Babbu (35). As per information, Ranjit injected some drugs on Wednesday night following which his condition started deteriorating and later, he died. Sources said he was taking treatment at a rehabilitation centre. OC

4 vehicles impounded

Fazilka: The police have booked one Darshan Singh of Kathgarh village and some unidentified persons for illegal sand mining and impounded four sand-laden tractor-trailers. Sources said on a tip-off, the police raided the village and impounded the vehicles but no one was arrested. OC

Neighbour held for youth’s murder

Sangrur: A 20-year-old youth was allegedly killed by two brothers, who were his neighbours, in Harkishanpura village of the district on Wednesday night. The police have arrested one, while the other is absconding. The deceased has been identified as Arshdeep Singh. SHO Rakesh Kumar said the accused, Harjinder Singh, suspected that Arshdeep was harassing his wife, which triggered an argument and later the murder. — TNS
