The cold-blooded murder of three members of a family in Naushehra village late last night has left the residents aghast, who call it honour killing. Joginder Singh’s elder son Harmanjit Singh had married a Dalit girl from Dhalla village over a month ago, triggering caste tensions.

 Last night, the girl’s  father Beera Singh and her three brothers, who were accompanied by three relatives from Attari village, attacked Harmanjit Singh’s farmhouse, but the newly-wed couple was away. Sources said Harmanjit and his wife Bebi had received several threats.

Apprehending an attack on their life, they may have decided to shift out. The attackers killed Harmanjit’s father Joginder Singh, 65, his younger brother Pawandip Singh,19, and sister Prabhjit Kaur,18. A case has been registered. The police said they had absconded. Dharuv Dahiya, SSP, said policemen had been deployed at the village.
