Chandigarh, July 31
After Navjot Singh Sidhu, it is now the turn of new Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra to face the ire of Congress MLAs over transfer and postings in the department.
In the last few days, party MLAs have been complaining to senior leaders about their choice of officials not being posted by the Local Bodies Department despite requests being made. The last date of transfer and postings ended on Wednesday.
A few days ago, Zira MLA Kulbir Zira walked out of the camp office of the minister, annoyed over his request of posting an executive officer (EO) not being accepted. He was accompanied by Gurdaspur MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra.
Similarly, MLAs from Ludhiana Rakesh Pandey, Sanjay Talwar and Surinder Darbar and Jalandhar MLA have sought the officials of their choice be posted in the urban local bodies.
Busy with putting the department back on track, Brahm Mohindra, without naming any MLA, said, βI am sensitive to the demand of the MLAs and have been trying to empower them in their respective urban local bodies. But if anyone asks for cancellation of posting orders made on his request, how will department run?β
Departmental officials, however, said with the date of accepting the request for transfers and postings ending on Thursday, the final list would be out in a day or two. βIt will have to be seen as to how many requests have been entertained,β an MLA said.
