The arrest of a suspected espionage with some secret Army documents near cantonment area in Faridkot on Sunday has put the Army and police authorities on alert.
Working on a secret tip-off, the Faridkot police arrested Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu of Dharamkot area in Moga district. He was staying in a rented accommodation in a residential colony near the Cantonment area in Faridkot.
After his arrest, the Faridkot police recovered some sensitive documents from him. Sidhu was produced before the duty magistrate and was sent to five-day police remand.
The police said his questioning revealed that he had visited Pakistan some time back. It is alleged that Sidhu was in constant touch with some officials of Pakistan’s ISI. The police have booked him under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act and are investigating the case.
