A murder convict, who was out on parole, was arrested on charges of running a drug trade along with another inmate from the Central Jail, Ferozepur.
The police had arrested Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Radha Swami Colony, Fazilka, and Surjit Singh, a resident of Muktsar, and recovered 25 gm of heroin from their possession on May 16.
Fazilka DSP Jagdish Kumar said both were allegedly carrying out drug trade on the instructions of Sukhdev Singh, alias Bittu, who was undergoing imprisonment in the jail for allegedly murdering his lover.
The DSP said Sukhdev Singh came out on parole 10 days ago, but when the police came to know about his presence in Dashmesh Nagri, Jalalabad, they nabbed him and his cousin Karan Singh, who was also involved in the trade.
The DSP said Sukhdev Singh confessed that he and another inmate, Keshav, were running drug trade from the jail. He said the police had checked details of Sukhdev Singh’s phone and found that calls were made to different contacts when he was lodged in the jail. Sukhdev Singh was remanded in police custody till July 1. — OC
