Fazilka, June 26

Residents of the district are demanding more trains on the Fazilka-Abohar stretch to facilitate commuters.

The Northern Railway Passengers Samiti has written a letter to Ferozepur MP Sukhbir Badal and said the Fazilka-Abohar track was constructed about seven years ago at the cost of Rs 250 crore but only two trains run on it daily. Vipul Datta, president of the samiti, said the track should be made operational round the clock.

The samiti demanded running the proposed Srigangangar-Beas train via Fazilka and also sought to extend the Delhi-Sriganganagar train to Fazilka.

On the other hand, the Fazilka town residents are demanding construction of an important stretch outside the railway station which was damaged around a decade back. The stretch connects Court Road and Railway Road and is used by thousands of commuters daily.

Railways officials said since the road was used by town residents, it should be constructed by the state government. On the other hand, the MC authorities said the land was owned by the Railways, so the road should be also constructed by it.
