New Delhi, June 29

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today met Congress veteran Ahmad Patel here amid suspense over the future of Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who hasn’t taken the charge of power ministry given to him in the recent reshuffle of portfolios.

A spokesperson said there was nothing political about the meeting and no issues related to Punjab politics were discussed.

“The Chief Minister met Ahmad Patel. It was a courtesy call. No discussion on any of Punjab’s political matters took place,” the spokesperson said this evening.

He said Patel had invited Capt Amarinder for dinner two days ago and since he could not attend due to the official meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, he called on Patel briefly today.

“It was just a courtesy call,” the Chief Minister said, adding that Sidhu was not discussed there.

On June 10, Sidhu had met Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and Patel in Delhi to complain against the June 6 Cabinet reshuffle, wherein local bodies portfolio was withdrawn from him.

Sidhu is alleging that Capt Amarinder had singled him out for punishment, whereas other ministers also performed poorly in their Assembly segments in the recent polls.
