CHANDIGARH: SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday demanded registration of a murder case against Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who he said was directly responsible for the killing of a prisoner during police firing in the Ludhiana Central Jail on Thursday. In a statement, the SAD president said besides the minister, the role of other senior police officers and the Jail Superintendent should also be examined to fix responsibility for the death of inmate Ajit Baba in police firing. Inmates clash in Bathinda jail, 2 hurt

Bathinda: Two inmates were injured in a clash that broke out at the Central Jail here on Friday. According to sources, gangster Rahul Sood entered into a scuffle with two members of the Vicky Gounder gang. The trouble broke out when the jail authorities wanted to shift one of these three out of their barrack in accordance with the orders that there should be only two inmates in a barrack. Congress leader fires in air, booked

Muktsar: The Kotbhai police on Friday booked a Congress leader for allegedly firing in the air and obstructing some government employees from performing their duty at Gilzewala village. In his complaint lodged with the police, Nirmal Singh, sarpanch of Gilzewala village, alleged that Revenue Department officials were demarcating land for a bus stop but Congress leader Ravinder Singh obstructed their work and opened fire. Sangrur: The Chhajli police have arrested one person and confiscated 80 boxes of smuggled liquor. “Last night during checking on the Neelowal to Chhajla road, we arrested Anil kumar and seized 80 boxes of liquor which was meant for sale in Haryana. Sangrur: The STF against drugs has arrested two persons and confiscated 45,800 habit-forming tablets from their possession. Harvinder Singh Cheema, DSP STF, said a Sangrur STF team laid a naka near Rupaheri village on Thursday evening and confiscated 45,800 tablets from a car and arrested Lakhwinder Singh and Hakam Singh. Woman drug peddler held

Abohar: The Sriganganagar police nabbed Komal Sindhi (32) under the NDPS Act during a raid at a house in Gandhi Nagar in Hanumangarh. She had fled after the arrest of two peddlers of Patli village near the interstate border on the Abohar-Hanumangarh road in January. Interrogation reportedly indicated that she took over drug trafficking after her husband Pawan Sindhi was arrested. OC
