Bathinda, June 29

A murder accused fled from the prisoner ward of the local civil hospital in the early hours on Saturday. The accused, Paramjit Singh, was in police custody since June 21 for allegedly murdering a priest of Raman village gurdwara.

Sources said the accused managed to unshackle himself and fled the hospital at 1:30 am on Saturday. The guards, who had accompanied the accused to the hospital, tried to chase him, but could not trace him since there are multiple exit points in the hospital.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the police suspended four cops and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh confirmed that the suspension orders had been issued.

Talwandi Sabo DSP Harpal Singh said, “Those suspended are ASI Jasvir Singh, Balwinder Singh, and home guards Resham Singh and Devi Dyal.” — TNS
